A striking two-storey home, one of three new builds tucked into the Wanaka hillside with sweeping Southern Alps views.

Our scope ran from foundations on a raft slab system through to bracing, structural beams and post connections, the freestanding chimney structure, floor cantilevers, internal balustrade support and verandah and louvre fixings, working alongside Shanahan Architects to achieve the architectural vision without compromising structural performance.

The foundation design was particularly challenging due to the combination of under-slab insulation, heavy cladding materials, the region's high seismic requirements and sandy soil conditions. DHC developed a solution that balanced structural and geotechnical constraints while retaining conventional construction methods, avoiding unnecessary complexity and additional construction costs.

The finished home pairs stone and cedar cladding with a dark standing-seam roof, delivering a refined architectural result designed to perform through Central Otago's demanding conditions for the long haul.
